About Plane Place:
These are the beginning stages of Plane Place, the third abstract landscape from the Majestic In My Neighborhood series. I am completing the "object of focus," the hangar first before proceeding with the background, as that approach created problems fitting the completed object into the completed background later on Serial Sentinel. It's a constant learning process, both familiar and foreign simultaneously.
The materials I select speak to me. From the desired textures to the scale of detail, the materials in this piece have told me where they should go and what they will do for me. At times, I push the boundaries of this discussion, but it is less battle and more of a cooperative with give and take. As I complete Plane Place, the last landscape in the series, I am seeing how they should go together and how to present them together. The building process is more efficient, quicker, and more direct with more certainty in decision-making. With this familiarity, the idea of celebrating the utilitarian object with its pure visual function and basic architectural necessity is clear to me now.
